Looking for a Job Using the Web to Your Advantage

Posted by admin on 25 Dec 2009 | Tagged as: Corporate Evangelism, Hall Of Marketing, The Commerce Trail

The Internet offers huge opportunities for a job seeker, but also presents several possible challenges. It also adds great complexities, and a lot more matters to think about…and be wary of.

Job hunting needs to be thought of as a personalized, very aimed marketing process where you are the product. Your resume is an ad. Your extended network is your lead generating machine.

So where does the internet fit in? At AA-Careers, we just posted a job on a popular job site and got over 600 applications in a week. For a single position. That’s increased job hunting competition.

Had a strong person contacted us before we placed the ad, they could have landed the job before having all that competition. How? By finding someone who knows an employee at our office who became aware of the job prior to posting. Everyone knew about of the job for at least 13 days before it was posted. Who in your network might know of a job that’s coming available soon?

Be careful how you submit your application as well. When we did an analysis of the 650 resumes, we found a large number of errors. 63% of the applicants were easily removed with a quick triage process. How? The same way any manager would. By passing over resumes where the objective didn’t match our job description. By passing over prospects whose cover letters gave us causes not to employ them, like "I know I’m overqualified but I really need a job". By eliminating prospects whose documents that didn’t open properly. And by passing over candidates who didn’t trouble to spell check their cover letter and/or resume.

So the great news is that job sites give you a sense of who is hiring, and for what kinds of jobs. But once those positions are posted, the competition is intense. You can still try, if you have a well honed resume, designed to appeal directly and clearly to the recruiter. And if you have practiced interviewing – so you don’t stumble at a critical point.

Another thing to be aware of is how easily you can be investigated on the internet. As we Googled several job hunters, we ran into some MySpace comments that were in questionable taste. Nothing insane, but enough to tilt our thinking about who to employ.

AA-Careers provides a comprehensive set of services for Bay Area job seekers, providing our clients a personal career consultant, a managed job hunting campaign, modern tools like a personal website, video, highly targeted resume, and much more. Let us know if we can help you.

Be careful out there, and good hunting!

Best Practice Use of the Internet for Job Hunting

Posted by admin on 07 Dec 2009 | Tagged as: Business News, The Commerce Trail, Tips

A modern job hunting campaign is by nature very complicated. While the net has offered a variety of new sites and ways to communicate, it also creates exaggerated competition for choice jobs and potential challenges for job hunters.

Job hunting needs to be thought of as a highly personalized, highly targeted marketing process where you are the product. Your resume is an ad. Your extended network is your lead generating machine.

So where does the Internet fit in? At AA-Careers, we recently posted a job on a job search site and got 500+ responses in a few days. For just one opening. That’s increased competition.

Had the right someone contacted us ahead of our posting that ad, they could have secured the job prior to getting all that competition. How? By knowing someone at our company who became aware of the job prior to posting. Everyone was aware of the job for at least a week before it was posted. Who in your network might know of a job that’s coming on the market soon?

So the good news is that job boards give you a sense of who is hiring, and for what kinds of jobs. But once those jobs are posted, the competition is fierce. You can still compete, if you have a well honed resume, designed to appeal directly and clearly to the recruiter. And if you have practiced interviewing - so you don’t stumble at a critical point.

Another downside to be aware of is how easily you can be checked on the internet. As we Googled several candidates, we ran into some pictures and comments that were in questionable taste. Nothing illegal, but enough to sway our thinking about who to hire.

This type of marketing is akin to an auction. Your web site promotes assorted products for this, each sale makes you commission. It isn’t as much effort, few operating costs, it works while you sleep, and what is even better, it is relatively simple to master.

At the beginning, you must decide which items or area best suits your interests. To achieve this, find out what a specific customer profile is suffering from, and what solutions are on offer to help them. One of the most efficient means to determine this easily is to look for unique sets of extremely targeted words and phrases; there are less searchers for these in general, but a higher percentage of these convert.

To obtain these important keywords, you should use Micro Niche Finder or a program like it. Data collected from this computer program or other applications and software packages compiles related keywords in an extensive list providing worthwhile information to get top placing on the web based search engines.

Further info is available by the application, for example the number of searches every one gets, precisely how many other web sites who exploit those keywords, and how strong the competition is. Ultimately, Micro Niche Finder data will help you find the right domain, subject matter for your internet site, and even identify the best sales opportunities. The next step is to construct a internet site; but you’ll obviously need to do more than that. Search engine optimization is absolutely fundamental. Applications like SEO Elite can make this less problematic. Your rivals’ sites are examined by the software package which then offers suggestions on improving search engine rankings.

With software like SEO Elite, info generated from the application suggests where you might look for pertinent links, what words to focus on, and information on where to submit articles. Concisely, Seo Elite information is similar to the information that a specialist in search engine optimization would give. Once you have determined what market sector you want to sell in, have some product promotion, and your website has been constructed, it’s time to get your website up in the search results. You’ll pick up a regular paycheck and you’ll question why you ever doubted that affiliate marketing could work for you!

How many ways are there to make money online?

Geez, where can I start ? Lets see, Google Adsense comes to mind, get a website, write a ton of good content, do search engine optimization to drive traffic to your site. But there is so much more to it. The ads need to blend into the site, be placed in the correct area, the goal here is to get a good click thru rate. How many websites? My goal is to get as many websites out there on the net to start making additional revenue streams.

E-Books, I will eventually write an E-book about the Pay Per Click industry with tips and tricks or possibly a home computer security book. All that is need is some software, a domain name, some great web design and graphic design for the book. I don’t want to publish a boring and non-informative book. I want my clients to get solid information for a great price. Maybe Ill will write about software to keep kids from viewing websites, they shouldn’t and how parents can monitor their activities without their knowledge. Because most kids nowadays know more about technology than their parents.

Amazon, I use Amazon currently to sell books. I do well. I would make more if I put more time into it, but that’s the problem time. Amazon is simple to use, but I do make frequent trips to the post office. The solution? http://www.stamps.com.

E-bay, I have hundred of beanie babies that I need to get online. Anyone interested. That was a joke. With E-Bay you can sell almost anything. Just create a account, set up billing information and take a photo. Sounds simple, it is. But there are many advanced selling strategies that can be found out thru E-bay.

Online business, you can advertise your services online or create your own website, to offer good that you might have. Anything you want to sell does not need to go thru E-bay, they just make it easier for you, but there are fees to pay.

Yahoo Stores, Nowadays you can even purchase pre-built online stores, with drop shippers ready to ship products you don’t even need inventory. This is pretty sweet although customer service can be a nightmare for your customers though.

I wish you the best of luck with you online endeavours !

After Christmas World Class Customer Service is Needed

Posted by admin on 21 May 2008 | Tagged as: The Commerce Trail

Every business makes promises to customers. Those promises are put to the test in a peak season. All businesses have peak seasons and have to make good on their promises. Tomorrow is the start of the peak season for customer service personnel who work in retail businesses. It is the “return” season, the time of year that requires real gumption, patience, and courtesy. Exchanges are needed, refunds are requested, lines are long, and tempers get short. Policies and people are stretched. It is also a season that is a huge opportunity if it is handled right.

Returns are unavoidable. “I might have gained a few pounds so that shirt is the wrong size so I’ll exchange it for the right size. Oh, you are out of my size? I’ll take a refund and come back later. No, of course, I don’t have a receipt, it was a gift.” How this scenario is resolved will create a problem or an opportunity.

The manner in which returns and exchanges are treated determines how the company makes good on its promises. Those people who are on the front lines of return season, the clerks and customer service representatives can be the good-will ambassadors as they fulfill their company’s promises for quality, service, and convenience. If the promises are kept, the relationship between the customer and company is strengthened but if there is a problem, the company has probably lost a customer and might even have someone “telling everyone I know how terrible you have treated me.”

While it is probably unreasonable to expect 100% perfect customer service, the goal is to come as close to perfection as possible. Here are a few ideas to help get you closer to that ideal.

Return / exchange / refund policies should be easily communicated, understood and available at the time of purchase and of return.

Time to handle return must be minimal.

Have enough trained and empowered staff on hand.

A supervisor should be available to resolve any conflicts quickly.

Review all policies and training issues right after the rush.

Seek a world class “return season” and it will be better next year!

The Affiliate Model - How To Make Money As An Affiliate

Posted by admin on 26 Apr 2008 | Tagged as: The Commerce Trail

Affiliate programs are a very easy and effective way to make money on the Internet right? so how do they work?

Essentially, affiliate programs are a way that you can promote other people’s products and get paid a commission for promoting them. You can get paid to promote almost any type of product and service on the web.

Most of the top companies on the web have Affiliate Programs. Dell computers, Amazon, Expedia, AT&T, Chase bank, Delta airlines and Walmart are just a few examples - did you know that you can be paid a commission to sell products online for any one of these companies?

The best thing about affiliate programs is that it is so easy to set up a relationship with any one of these companies. Normally in business you would have to spend weeks or months of meetings, proving that you are a worthwhile partner to be able to do business with these sorts of companies. However, an affiliate program allows you to get commissions straight away as a little guy, without all the hassle of meetings and forming that relationship.

There are thousands of affiliate programs that you can promote on the web. You have so many choices that you could pursue. The key factors for success with affiliate programs are the following:

Choosing the right affiliate programs. If you choose certain affiliate programs you will likely only be able to earn a small income because their payouts are small. Other affiliate programs have very large payouts and high earning per click (EPC). If you don’t know what earning per click (EPC) is, it is the average amount that affiliates earn from each click to the site that they are sending money to. Some networks express it in earnings per one hundred clicks.

For example you could say an EPC of $57. This means you make $57 on average for every 100 visitors that you send to a site or 57 cents for sending one visitor to the site. Generally I am looking for affiliate programs with an EPC of $20 or more, which means I am making 20 cents per visitor. Usually, I focus on programs that have an EPC of $100 or $1 per visitor. When you are earning $1 per visitor you have potential for a lot more profit.

The second critical factor is getting the traffic to the affiliate program. We are going to talk about this more in other issues of the Ecourse.

The third factor is being able to pre-sell to the visitors of your site. Let’s say that you have a website where you discuss different products and services, a comparison type of site. You can recommend the product that you think is most beneficial and then when people click through to the site after your recommendation, they are much more likely to buy.

How do you find good affiliate programs?

One easy way is to go to all of the affiliate networks and sign up for affiliate programs there. The major affiliate networks like Commission Junction have thousands of affiliate programs that you can join in all sorts of categories. You can find a listing of the different affiliate networks at: http://www.profitpuppy.com/affiliate-networks.htm

It also depends on what type of strategy you are pursuing with affiliate

programs. There are many different strategies and we can’t go into all of them now, we’ll talk about them in detail in some later issues of the ecourse. However here are a few strategies to get your brain ticking over with ideas:

You can promote affiliate programs directly using Google Adwords. You simply promote the program by creating your own ads. This is the quickest way to make money on the Internet as you can get started and in 1-2 hours have some ads up that are making you money. However, it is getting more and more difficult to make money with this strategy as there are too many people doing it. As with anything in life, if something is too easy to make money, everyone will start doing it and it then becomes more difficult because there is more competition.

One strategy is to focus on a particular niche area … let’s say you decide to do a site on car rentals. You could then join all the affiliate programs to do with car rentals. You can find many of them through the major networks, but you might also need to search on Google for something like - ‘car rental affiliate program’.

Another strategy is to build lots of little mini sites on the Internet focusing on different keyword phrases that people are searching for and get free search engine listings in Google and other search engines. This is a great strategy because the traffic that you get is free. This is general called Search Engine Optimization (SEO). SEO is great and can make you a lot of money but it is also very tricky. It is not easy to get to the top of the search engines. It requires a lot of knowledge, and quite a bit of effort. Don’t think that you can just read a book and do it … normally it is going to take months of dedication to get there.

That’s a few ideas, but whatever area you are involved in on the Internet you should definitely be promoting affiliate programs. Even if you sell your own product online you should still look into affiliate programs as a back end profit centre for your business.

Affiliate programs are one of the quickest ways to make money on the Internet. Over the next few issues of the Ecourse we are going to talk about other strategies of using affiliate programs.

If you want a free email course on affiliate programs you can send a blank email to: tamsaffiliatemarketing@sitesell.net This email course is written by Ken Evoy and it is this course that actually got me started in marketing on the Internet.

Electronic Payment Services: Money Still Exchanges Hands, Just Without Ever Touching a Palm

Posted by admin on 11 Apr 2008 | Tagged as: The Commerce Trail

Buying and selling products or services online just
got a whole lot easier. Using only a person’s e-mail
address, you can pay for purchases and receive money
owed to you without ever touching an actual green
dollar bill. Of course, not touching it might take
some of the fun out of getting paid, but it’s still
your money just the same. It’s virtual money.

So, you’re saying to yourself right about now,
“How is this magical feat performed?” A variety
of online payment services have sprung up
to make virtual payment a
reality (no pun intended).

If you need to pay someone or someone needs to
pay you all you need to know is their e-mail
address and which service they are using. If someone
sends you money through a service you’re not
currently a member of, no problem. You simply
register (which is most always free) and collect
your hard earned cash.

Payments are made either by tapping into your offline
bank account or using your credit card. Of course,
once enough people start using this option,
your electronic service account balance will enable
you to pay your debts without tapping into
your credit card or bank
account. Converting your virtual money to the real thing
is as simple as requesting a check for an amount
not exceeding what’s
in your account, and a “real” check will show
up at your “real” house in less than a week.

Let’s take a look at some of the more popular
services and how they work.

PAYPAL

http://www.paypal.com

PayPal, a part of online bank X.com, has
got to be the largest online payment service today.
They claim over 3 million customers to date. Free
to register, but business accounts are charged 1.9%
to receive funds.

Payments can be made using Mastercard, Visa or
your offline bank account. They also pay a 5.00
referral bonus for every friend you get to sign
up with them. At this time PayPal does not take
International payments but does have plans to
expand into that arena shortly.

eCOUNT:

http://www.ecount.com

Free to register and use. eCount payments can be
made with Discover, Mastercard or Visa. Transactions
are limited to $1,000.00 a day at this time.

YAHOO PAY DIRECT:

http://www.paydirect.yahoo.com

Free to register and use, Yahoo allows you to accept
payments with American Express, Discover, Mastercard,
or bank transactions from your existing offline
account. They do have a monthly transaction limit
of $1,000.00 for all transactions.

EMONEY MAIL:

http://www.emoneymail.com

Boosting over 20,000 users Emoney Mail’s service is
not free to use. They charge $1.00 to send money
and transactions are limited to $500.00 a day.
The only way to send money is using your Visa.
No Visa, no money for you….that reminds me of an
old Seinfeld episode, but that’s another story.

PROPAY:

http://www.propay.com

This service charges 3.5% of total, plus .35 to
move funds to your bank account. Transactions are
limited to $250.00 a day. Only two ways to send
money with this one; Mastercard or Visa. One nice
perk of this service is they’ll pay you $10.00
for every person you send to them who registers.
Not a bad referral program, if I do say so
myself.

BILLPOINT:

http://www.billpoint.com

This is E-Bay’s service and is the preferred method
to use if buying or selling on their auction site.
No registration is needed for auction buyers to
use this service, but sellers must register and
pay .35 per transaction for amounts up to $10.00,
and .35 and 3.5% for transactions over $10.00.

Transactions can be paid using Visa, Mastercard,
Discover, or online check.

As you can see, buying and selling online no longer
requires you to have a merchant account, which levels
the playing field for home based businesses to accept
online payments. Many electronic shopping carts are
starting to implement PayPal as a payment option when
checking out of online stores.

Now there’s no excuse for not paying your debts on
time. You may not be able to touch it, but believe me, “virtual
money” is just as good as the real thing. Being paid
electronically might not feel the same as someone
placing “cold hard cash” in the palm of your hand,
but it’s still there: you just won’t have to wash
your hands as often.

Offer Free Downloadable E-books and See Increased Website Traffic

Posted by admin on 08 Apr 2008 | Tagged as: The Commerce Trail

Copyright 2006 Anton Cheranev

It is common knowledge that everyone loves to get something for
free. People are often seen stuffing hundreds of forms into
contest ballot boxes, sometimes filling them out for hours at a
time. It is unreal what people will do for a freebie. The same
is true with your website. If you are trying to target more
traffic and increase your website production, then you should
certainly consider adding free downloads to your site. Downloads
are extremely popular with web users today, especially when they
are free. With many sites charging outrageous prices for the
smallest download, a freebie is always welcomed. By offering
free downloads, you will see that your website traffic will
increase and those who use your site will keep coming back. It
is a great thing to do and can be extremely inexpensive as well.

When choosing which downloads to include on your site, you will
probably find that downloadable e-books are among the easiest to
work with. E-books are partial or complete books on different
subjects. You can even write the content yourself if you wish.
Sometimes you can find e-books that are already written and are
available for anyone to use on their site. If you want to offer
something fresh and interesting however, you should only use
original material that has never been published on the web
before. This will allow your site to be new and exciting to web
users.

After deciding to use e-books as your free downloadable gift to
your visitors, you will need to choose the subjects you want to
work with. You can stick with one basic theme for your site if
you wish. If you already have a website that is about dolls,
then you may want to only include free downloadable e-books that
pertain to the subject of dolls. This will allow those who come
to your site initially to get more than what they expected,
which is a great thing. They will likely bookmark your site and
keep coming back for more information and free downloads. They
may even tell their friends about the site as well.

If you are creating a site that consists of nothing but e-books,
then you probably want to use e-books in a wide variety of
subjects. You can group them within your site by topic or theme
to make it look organized. If this is your plan, you might also
want to hire professional writers to help you with this task. If
your site will be nothing but e-books, you will probably find
the writing to be a bit overwhelming to tackle alone. You can
hire freelance writers to help you with this task, which will
help you create strong writing content as well as help take the
stress load off of you.

When using only one or two e-books on your existing site, be
sure to offer a new e-book as often as possible. You may be able
to change the e-books each week or maybe change them monthly. By
offering something new to visitors however, they will be likely
to come back to see if anything is new quite often. You can even
make an “announcement” on your site telling visitors when a new
e-book will be available. This will give them an idea of when to
expect it and help them stay motivated to come back to your
site. If you want, you can also allow visitors to sign up for
emails that will notify them when a new e-book is available.
This will guarantee they won’t forget.

Whether you write the downloadable e-books yourself or hire a
professional to help you, you will certainly see increased
website traffic. When you are offering a web user something for
free, such as a downloadable e-book, you are making them feel
appreciated and warm. You are telling them that you are inviting
them into your site, not specifically to take their money, but
to help them gain information as well. This is a great way to
build a good reputation and a devoted group of website visitors.
So, go ahead and start planning your e-books today. The sooner
you get them posted on your site, the sooner you will see that
increase in website traffic.
