Jog and Stay Fit

Posted by admin on 29 Nov 2009 | Tagged as: Fitness Gear

Jogging is usually an exercise program followed by athletes and sportspersons. But even ordinary people can choose this fitness program for their general body fitness. But before starting this fitness program you need to consult a physician to confirm that you are healthy. After the checkup you can start running during the mornings or evenings and continue it until you feel fatigued. Gradually increase your timings and choose a place
where you can continuously run for at least thirty minutes.

Select a day in a week for running fast; it may be done on Wednesdays. Start off slowly and gradually increase the speed until you feel exhausted and your muscles become heavy. Slow down again till you breathe normally and start with speed again. Repeat this till your legs become heavy.

You may take a day off if you feel exhausted. Probably on Sundays you can jog a longer stretch. Start off with a 30-minute run and go on extending, week after week till you are able to run up to 90 minutes. Let Monday be a holiday and on Tuesday run slowly. On Wednesday take time to run faster.

Even if you are engaged in the other programs like rowing, cycling, swimming follow the same schedule.

Walk 10,000 Steps to Improve Health and Fitness

Posted by admin on 10 Nov 2009 | Tagged as: Fitness Gear

It’s a fact, America is becoming obese at an alarming rate and the rest of the world is following close behind. We are eating more (and more of the wrong stuff) and exercising less or getting no exercise at all. Our health is in steep decline and doctor and hospital visits are at all time highs. Just a brisk 30-minute walk a day can begin to turn that around.

You name it, we have it, and it’s getting worse. Heart and cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, stroke, out of control blood sugar levels, diabetes, obesity, and more. The U.S. Surgeon General recommends getting at least 20-30 minutes of moderate activity each day and many of us are falling far short of even that.

Studies show the average person takes about 3000 to 5000 steps a day, and some even much less. Let’s face it, we just do not get the exercise our ancestors did a hundred or so years ago and we tend to eat more refined foods. For some of us, most of steps we take are from the easy chair in front of the TV to the fridge so we can fill up on snacks. For others, like me, we sit at a computer all day as part of our jobs.

Many fitness experts recommend we walk 10,000 steps a day to maintain our weight and overall good health. 10,000 steps are approximately 5 miles, give or take depending on the length of your stride. You will need to purchase and wear a pedometer to count how many steps you take each day. Follow the directions that usually come with the pedometer. Do this for a week or two and you will get a good average step count. Your goal is to reach 10,000 or more steps each day. There is nothing magical about 10,000, but it will put you in the right ballpark.

As a general rule, a person will burn about 100 calories walking a mile, depending on age, size, and fitness level. The heavier you are, the more calories you will burn.

Become creative on ways to increase your steps. At work, go for walks at lunchtime. Go for walks with your spouse or children. Walk the dog. Walk to the store instead of driving, or park at the far end of the parking lot. Use the stairs instead of the elevator. For me, I take brisk 2-mile walks around the neighborhood twice a day everyday (aerobic walking). Just do whatever works best for you, but do it! You will need good walking shoes and socks to prevent injury when walking for exercise (like aerobic walking).

Go to your favorite search engine and type in “10,000 steps” to learn more about this life saving, life changing program. The information is abundant.

Playing Your Cardio Right

Posted by admin on 02 Nov 2009 | Tagged as: Fitness Gear

To many, that half-hour a day is the most enjoyable, most therapeutic part of your agenda. To others, it’s as dreadful as taking out the trash and doing the dishes. Yet, like your household chores, you know it’s something you simply must do.

Cardiovascular activity, referred to simply as “cardio,” should be as much a part of your body-sculpting endeavors as pulling and pushing those metal plates. As often as you’re pumping the iron, you should also be pumping your heart.

Unfortunately, Americans today are more glued to the screen, whether it be the television, Nintendo, or yes, even the Internet. It has been concluded that the majority of Americans have insufficient cardiovascular activity in their daily schedules, thus leading to a cartload of various health problems.

The 30 minutes per day that you should reserve for cardio work should always entail exercises that are enjoyable, manageable, and of course, safe.

So if you’re ready to get sweaty, here are a few wise choices:

RUNNING (Outdoors): Believe it or not, this exercise reminds me a lot of Howard Stern. Like the infamous DJ, you either love it or hate it. Beyond question, however, is the simple fact that running is a fantastic way to whip you into shape and provide full cardiovascular fitness. Running is a full-body exercise in which only you channel the motion, resistance, and weight distribution. There are no wheels or cycles doing any of the work for you.

Sometimes, running can actually be too rigorous an exercise and for bodybuilders it’s been known to foil some of that hard-earned muscle mass. Also, running can take a considerable toll on your joints, particularly your knees and ankles as well as your abused feet.

TREADMILL: This may seem like the equivalent to a run through the park or the neighborhood, and in a lot of ways, it is. Running is the same vigorous exercise whether done outdoors or in. Yet, the treadmill, because of its smooth rubbery conveyor belt is a lot more merciful on your joints. It doesn’t wear and tear your body the way running on the tarred street will. There is no pounding-like effect.

However, the treadmill does not offer the natural variations such as hills and curves which provides for a more rigorous workout on the streets. Also, the fresh air that can fill and expand your lungs is not a benefit from an indoor facility.

STAIRMASTER & STEPPERS: Some people refer to these devices simply as “sweat machines.” close by. Stairmasters, whether they’re the rotating kind or the step versions, are both excellent methods of losing weight and shedding body fat.

Yet, many fitness experts have concluded that stairs work may be insufficient in your quest to get in shape. For one, the exercise relies solely on lower body movement and tends to abandon the upper torso. Too often, people rest their arms on the bars at their sides, taking some of the resistance (your body weight) out of your legs.

STATIONARY BIKES: When you ride the stationary bike, it feels like you aren’t going anywhere. That’s because you’re not. But whether or not you’re making strides with your cardiovascular health is another matter. While these bikes are beneficial in raising the heart level, they also provide far less strain on the knees and back than other methods of cardio and are excellent for toning up the quadriceps.

The workout you’ll get from a stationary bike, however, is of the low-impact variety and like the scenery in front of you, it may feel like you’re not going anywhere, especially if you’ve set high fitness goals for yourself.

SWIMMING: Go on and make a splash. This is an excellent cardiovascular activity in that it is a total body exercise and hits the various muscles in the body. The water provides an excellent form of resistance that will get your heart pumping in no time. The benefits for the heart and lungs are endless.

As for the down side? There’s only one.

Not every fitness club has a swimming pool.

Kona Fruit

Posted by admin on 03 Oct 2009 | Tagged as: Fitness Gear, Nutrition Stuff, World Of Health

Kona Coffee Berry is rich with phenolic acids and healing plant nutrients. These phenolic acids are rich anti oxidants. Kona Fruit begins it?s nutritious goodness along the slopes of high altitude mountain side with rich organic soil. Nourished by mineral-rich soil and warmed by intense tropical sunlight, coffee plants produce a profusion of wonderful bright red fruit, known as Kona Berry.
Kona Fruitis so exceptionally rich in anti oxidants because it grows in high altitude, low-latitude regions where the sun?s rays are strongest. As the plants mature, they develop these powerful antioxidants to protect them from damage caused by high doses of the sun?s radiation and the natural byproducts of photosynthesis.
You might be asking what the difference is between a Kona Berry and a Kona Coffee Bean. Kona berries are the outer layer of the coffee fruit and are a rich source of anti oxidants. Research reports that 400 mg of concentrate has a radical scavenging activity equal to 9.6 grams of fresh blueberries, 6.2 grams of strawberries, or 4.9 grams of raspberries.
This potent anti-radical power has not been commercially available previously because the fruit rapidly perishes, which is why only the bitter seed has been commercially exploited.
“We have discovered a means of growing, harvesting and processing the whole coffee fruit so that we arrest the development of mycotoxins and thereby render the coffee fruit for human consumption.
Because no one until now has figured out how to do this in a cost effective manner, whole coffee fruit has simply not been available.”
Kona Berry contains five of eight rare and essential sugars called monosaccharides, with research indicating that these are essential for the proper functioning of various biological systems.
Almost half of the dry weight of the concentrate is made up of polysaccharides, such as mannans and arabinoglactan. Conventional roasting destroys these nutrients, so they are not found in traditional brewed coffee.

Coffee Berry is now available in a new energy drink called XOWii.

Purchasing Gym Equipment Will Help save Money

Posted by admin on 04 May 2009 | Tagged as: Fitness Gear, Style of Life, World Of Health

Here is a question to ponder. is there a specific sort of physical exercise equipment that you prefer? The choices are limitless. There are, treadmills, cross trainers, elliptical trainers, free weights and a gang of others, but those are the basics. I might have left some major one out, but genuinely, that is not my point in any case.

So what is the central point? If you’re reading this chances are you’re interested in finding info concerning exercise equipment. I’ve been thinking about purchasing a decent home gyms myself, since I am weary of traveling almost twenty mins to arrive at the gymnasium and 20 minutes to get back.

That is 40 minutes that should be my complete exercise routine. Therefore, I just want to share some views about what I’ve been thinking about when it comes to buying fitness equipment for the home.

My point is simply this, if you go to a commercial gym then you have access to any of the above named types of exercise equipment. Still, if you are constructing a home gym region in your house chances are space is at a minimum. If you own a great mansion then praise, you have plenty of room for any type of gym equipment.

However, most mortals looking to have exercise equipment, you need to determine what needs to be your primary piece of fitness equipment.

Do you want strength training? Do you want a cardiovascular workout? Do you require to cardio train?

Before you go out and buy exercise equipment, think carefully about your somatotype. about what your goals are and try to match them to the correct gym equipment. To be honest, I would not buy a product just because it comes with a slick sales pitch on the idiot box.

If you have never exercised then just getting up and down off the sofa as many times as you can you’ll probably develop a decent leg routine and facilitate weight loss.

If you can’t stand utilising the gym equipment, you will not use it and it becomes bucks down the drain. As an example, if you are not a walker, then do not buy a treadmill. If you do not want to build muscles then you don’t need weights. A bit of common sense when purchasing gym equipment will help save money.

Do You Need an Expensive Padded, Cushioned, Air Bubbled, Gelled Running Shoe?

Posted by admin on 11 Mar 2009 | Tagged as: Fitness Gear

Nike Free does not think so; and neither should you. Read on to find out why this concerns every one of us, our health and a good deal of wasted money. This is not a story of the Nike Free shoe; it’s about our freedom and growth.

It has been a really long time since a major shoemaker has stepped forward and acknowledged that the human foot is the perfect running, walking machine.

Hence, a good shoe should be simple and that allows this perfect machine to execute flawlessly, rather than attempt to take over Nature’s function.

This is the core concept of the Nike Free line of shoes. Shoes that both mimic and allow the foot its freedom to get things done - in this case, walking, jogging and running.

Nonetheless, detractors argue that the lack of structural support and cushioning undermines the shoe’s ability to be a serious running shoe. The experts are spewing out terms like - Stress Fracture, Calf Injury, Knee Injuries, Plantar Fasciitis.

The Footwear Market & You

In the footwear industry, structural support and cushioning are considered the benchmarks of shoe superiority. The more features a shoe has; the more acclaim it will receive and, coincidentally, the more expensive it will cost.

Do we, as consumers, really need all that expensive support and cushioning?

Is it really better for us?

For centuries across civilizations, shoes were only worn as status symbols by aristocrats; while the common folk went about barefooted.

The very people, who walked the most and ran the most, went about their daily lives barefooted!

Obviously, shoes did not come about as an invention because our feet failed; it came as an invention of luxury and ego.

In the centuries that have gone by, our feet still maintain this same powerful ability. Today, we have barefoot marathon runners across the world and complete communities of tribal people who live barefooted.

Our God given machine of motion still explodes power in this day and age!

Yet, weekend runners who barely run a tenth of a marathon are spending hundreds of dollars to buy advanced technology for their feet!

Why is the man on the street spending so much on high - tech shoes when marathon runners and hunters happily thrive without them?

The answer is advertising and product branding.

Shoemakers astutely noticed that city folks are mostly overpronators or underpronators. Hence, in an effort to capitalise on this underlying dysfunction, they design shoes that support and cushion shock. Consequently, detaching and depriving the foot from its primary role as locomotion point guard.

Overpronation, Underpronation and Neutral Feet

More than 75% of city dwellers are either overpronators or underpronators. Essentially, it means that your feet lose their ability to accommodate ground unevenness and absorption of daily walking stress. Your foot has curved in one direction and cannot return to neutral state - think of it as a jammed window that cannot close.

In its functional state, our feet are made to pronate; curve to suit the contours of the ground. This is how we can run side ways on slopes and edges without tumbling over. Hence, feet with full range of pronation can walk, run, jog barefooted and not injure themselves (assuming you are not silly enough to go running on broken glass).

Since the foot has lost its ability to fully pronate, shoemakers generally believe that a shoe has to be padded, cushioned, gelled and reinforced. The reason being that it will make up for the feet’s loss of pronation range. Hence, the natural progression towards spending millions on technology research and charging you hundreds of dollars more per pair.

On the other hand, I look at all these structured shoes like crutches. Yes, we may need it for a while. But, when we consistently wear them and use them, we can never regain our natural ability to move the way we were originally made to - Pain free, explosive and flexible.

A plain simple running shoe that allows your feet to spread out is sufficient and good for any weekend jogger. It also happens to be much easier on the wallet! If you do want a fancier shoe, the Nike Free series would be a good buy because it goes beyond un-restriction of the feet; it mimics the shape of the feet and offers the feet much more control.

Ultimately, the injury and pain does not come from the lack of a jazzed up shoe, but rather dysfunctional feet.

My Feet / Knee / Shin / Calf hurts because of my Pronation. What do I do now?

I would first make a wild guess that the sole of your shoe is eaten up excessively on one side of the shoe. This could occur on one or both shoes. Do not assume that both feet equally underpronate or overpronate.

The first thing to do is to throw away all your shoes that reflect this unevenness. Go buy new pairs of shoes; neutral shoes that do not have excessive support. Have fun shopping, do it with a friend, a spouse or alone!

After a while, if you do not buy new pairs of shoes, your recovery will be impeded because you never throw away the “crutch”.

The next step is to slowly walk barefooted and as often as possible. You can start with your house, followed by the beach or park. The aim is to re-introduce your 26 foot bones and muscles to the sensation of the natural foot movement. They have been trapped in the shoe for all these years.

Finally, you have to move into active rehabilitation to help your body recover its neutral state. It is not some costly procedure, but rather a series of simple movement patterns that specifically unlock your frozen foot muscles and reintroduce your body to its natural alignment.

Some familiar exercises like yoga and pilates do help in this process. Nonetheless, if you want it quicker, faster and simpler, drop by http://phenogy.com to find out how you can be free of knee pains, shin splints, plantar fasciitis, flat foot, raised arch and other musculoskeletal injuries that are by-products of feet pronation.

Even if you think that you are not suffering from any of this at the moment. Take 5 seconds to stand straight up, feet shoulder width apart…. Now look down… Are your feet parallel to each other? Both pointing forward?

It is a disservice to yourself to cheat by correcting them. You have to look at your feet when they are at a relaxed state. Take a look when you go to work, or go shopping.

If your feet flare out or curve in or are not parallel pointing to the front. It is a very strong hint of future musculoskeletal injuries, that includes the above conditions coupled with back, shoulder and neck dysfunction.

Nonetheless, you may be that rare 1 out of 4 who have neutral feet. Congratulations and keep up whatever good motion that you already have!

Healthy Eating Alternatives for Pregnant Women

Posted by admin on 07 Feb 2009 | Tagged as: Fitness Gear, Food And More, World Of Health

A pregnant woman needs to be extra careful with what she eats. It is one of the best things she can do to ensure her baby’s growth and development. It is important therefore for her to consider healthier nutrition recommendations.

Whole grain products and fortified cereals are full of carbohydrates and carry fiber, iron, B vitamins, folic acid, minerals, and protein. A pregnant woman will need to take in at least 6 to 9 servings of grains in a day.

Around 3 or 4 servings of fruits and 4 or more servings of vegetables per day will supply her with vitamins and minerals, fiber, and iron (as absorbed by vitamin C).

A sufficient amount of protein will be necessary for the baby’s growth especially during the 2nd and 3rd trimesters. Two or more servings a day of meat, poultry, fish, eggs, and beans will also provide a pregnant woman additional B vitamins and iron.

Dairy products (4 or more servings a day) will boost the baby’s bones and teeth development. If an expectant mother is lactose intolerant, she can try calcium-fortified fruit juices, or ask her doctor for a lactase enzyme prescription.

Pregnant mothers also need to drink prenatal vitamins prescribed by their doctors.

A pregnant woman needs to remember that she also feeds the baby when she eats. So it is truly important to avoid eating food that will be bad for her and her baby’s health.
