Do you ever find yourself thinking you could be one of those chefs on TV? Are you looking for an opportunity that takes your love of cooking and creativity and combines them into a rewarding career? Living in Pasadena, California gives you an advantage of having several choices of schools to help make your dream come true.
Choosing a Program
One of the first things you need to do is choose the right type of program for you. Pasadena Culinary Schools offer a wide variety of programs. Whether you want to be a pastry chef or a head chef or run your own restaurant there are plenty of programs to choose. You can even combine some programs or just take a few classes. You also have the advantage of part-time or full-time.
The Application Process
Once you have an idea of which program you might want to pursue the next step is deciding which schools to apply to. Depending upon the school, it’s not much different in applying to a Pasadena Culinary school than it is to apply to a college or university. Some require lengthy applications and interviews. It would be to your benefit to prepare yourself to write an essay or two as well. The competitive schools usually require an interview. You would be asked to come in and talk with the admission committee in person. They may ask you things like, “Why do you want to be a chef?” or “Why our school?” It might be helpful for you to talk your answers through before the interview so you are comfortable. You will most likely be asked for your high school transcript and references. The committee might also want to know if you already have any culinary experience. Most Four or Two year schools will have you go through this process. Just keep in mind each school is different, so always try to be prepared.
Another option is to take just a few classes or just one class at a time. Most community colleges offer some cooking classes. They don’t require a lengthy application or interview. Usually it is just a short registration form and a flat fee. One advantage of this is to see if you would really enjoy the culinary world. No matter which path you choose you will have made the first steps in preparing to fulfill your dream.
