The Digital Britain report, released recently, proposed the introduction of mobile broadband in trains in the UK, specifically the London Underground System. If this initiative proceeds as proposed, there could be complete connectivity in the transport system by 2012.

Once the plans are put into action, commuters can expect uninterrupted, fast and convenient coverage during travel, instead of having to put up with erratic signals and constant disconnections from the network. They will be able to access the internet as they normally would in their homes, with high-speed and reliability, but of course this can only be done with a laptop! - click for laptop deals.

The government expects the transport system to be well connected in time for the Olympic Games in 2012 that London is hosting. The report maintains that the London Olympics would be the most “digital” Olympics so far.

The Government has been intending to provide mobile broadband connectivity to the train transport system for almost a year now, with drawn out plans that were shelved - thanks to the prevailing economic crisis. This time around, mobile broadband providers are being asked to share the financial burden. Whether they will offer to take the responsibility of setting up the network is anyone’s guess, but it is unlikely that they would take any step, which does not give them a fair return.
