You can hardly turn your head these days without seeing new studies that have been done that show the importance of cutting carbs out of your diet. New diet plans are coming out all the time that claim to have the perfect combinations of foods that will magically allow you to lose all of your extra weight without lifting a finger or sacficing any of the tastes you love so much. Eating low carb foods sounds so boring and hard, but it doesn’t have to.
As a registered dietician, it is my job and my joy to work with people in finding healthy food plans that are the best for them in achieving their health goals. I love sitting down with a client and discussing with them why they have made the decision to see me. Because you see, people have to get to a certain level of desperation and desire to change before they will go out of their way and make room in their tight budgets to see a dietician. I love hearing people talk about their struggles with weight and with making healthy eating choices. So many people desire to hear the truth about things like low carb foods but they have been so mis-informed by media.
Out of all the things people ask me, the questions I get most have to do with the truth about low carb foods and about switching to a low carb diet. People want to know whether or not it is an effective way to live, and if so, how they can do it without making their meals boring and bland. I love having this discussion about low carb foods because I happen to be a carb lover that has re-adjusted my eating habits in the past few years.
I tell all my clients that an important key to any health or eating program is balance. I tell them that this is why it is unrealistic and even harmful to think that we are doing good for our bodies by eliminated all carbs or all of anything from our diets. The purpose of low carb foods, which can be great, is to still enjoy the tastes and the health benefits (yes, benefits) of carbs while keeping them under control and trying to maintain your health and weight in the process.
Find some good information and read up about the truth about low carb foods if you don’t have the time or money to make an appointment with a dietician. Your health is worth it. Be proactive and learn the truth.
Belina Storrey is a dietician that loves to expose the truth about fads such as eating all low carb foods. See www.lowcarbfoodsgroup.info for more on this topic.

Luck or Providence? (C)
Terry Dashner…………………..Faith Fellowship Church PO Box 1586 Broken Arrow, OK 74013
One gentile ruler down and here comes another one. Just like God allowed it, no doubt.
Here comes Daniel’s leopard to pounce on the world. (The leopard is one of four gentile powers to rule over Israel throughout world history as stated in the Book of Daniel.) His name was Alexander. Let me tell you a little bit about him.
His father was Philip of Macedonia. He brought all of Greece under his rule just before he was assassinated in 336 BC. The great philosopher Aristotle tutored young Alexander. At 20 Alexander succeeded his famous father. Alexander defeated Darius III (558-486BC) in the Battle of Issus in 333 BC, the Persian Empire crumbled. By the time Alexander was 33, he ruled 50 times as much land and 20 times as many people as had existed in the empire he inherited from Philip. The territory included Greece, Egypt, all of the former Persian Empire and all of what we think of today as the Middle East.
Now the question I raise is this: How could a man (a young man at that) conquer that much territory in just 13 years if he had been guided simply by luck? He was not just fortuitous in his exploits. God allowed him to move swiftly across the world just like Daniel’s “leopard” because it was in His plan. (I hope I’m not being too dogmatic for you. Once again having survived 50 years on this planet, I’m convinced, more than ever, that God rules over the affairs of men.) “Even today” says Bill Yenne, “…almost two dozen centuries later, he [Alexander the Great] has barely half a dozen rivals to this achievement.
“However, the true importance of Alexander’s empire was that for the first time, there could be a free exchange of ideas between two different cultures. Unlike most other victorious leaders, Alexander was not only receptive to the ideas of his conquered peoples but adopted ideas he learned from Persian political organization. On the other hand, Greek art influenced the art of India. Before his untimely death of natural causes at age 33, Alexander also built the city of Alexandria in Egypt, whose great library survived for a thousand years and which evolved into the greatest center of learning in the world.”
So God used a Macedonian to spread Greek culture across the world. This exchange between cultures benefited the world and still impacts the nations of the world. It seems that God was all about spreading cultural ideas and disseminating knowledge. I believe that God detests ignorance, especially among His people. Ignorance does nothing more than bind up people, promote prejudice, darken civilizations, and slows progress. When Alexander finished his course, he was tossed aside. (God always gave His subjects great opportunities to humble themselves and live for Him. If rulers did that, they were sustained by the hand of God. If they exalted themselves, making themselves out to be gods, then God had one choice and that was to put them down and raise up another.)
Next on the scene of superpowers, was Rome. Rome was alluded to in the Book of Daniel as being the most terrible of all conquering powers that had come before her. Rome grows from a city on the Tiber River to become the dominant political force in Italy. And then a world empire. This, too, happened by supernatural guidance. It didn’t happen by luck.
The word “Punic” is derived from the Latin word Punicus, meaning Carthaginian, which itself is derived form the Greek word Phoenix, meaning Phoenician (proof of cultural borrowing and amalgamation of languages). Rome first comes to world dominance by defeating the superpower of the Mediterranean, Carthage. It will take three wars, but she does it and climbs to world-power status. That’s amazing. It was the Roman victory at the Battle of Zama in 202 BC which marked the beginning of the power of the Roman Empire that would continue to reign supreme for six centuries. Wow.
I will continue this study tomorrow. Remember, you could have been born at any time in history. But, God desired that you live today. What does that mean? You have been raised up by the Providence of God to serve Him today. This is a significant time in human history. Jesus is soon to return for His Bride, and you have been reserved for this end time event. That’s an awesome responsibility if you stop and think about it. It says that you should be busy about your Father’s business. You are to occupy the ground of faith until He comes. Don’t let Him come and find you sleeping on watch. Arise and tell the Good NewsJesus died for all that all men might live in God.
Keep the faith. Stay the course. Jesus is coming soon.

Many banks require a physical interview but not all of them do
for a bank account formation. It is still largely possible to
open your offshore account by mail. Your bank will always be
happy to find the following documents included in your
account-formation package:
Bank Account Purpose. Draw up a letter describing the purpose of
your offshore company and the use to which its offshore bank
account will be put, including intended annual turnover and
information regarding the origin of the funds deposited in the
account. You should provide this information even if your bank
has not asked; an upfront explanation might help avoid tiresome
scrutiny later on.
Company Existence. Provide evidence of your offshore company’s
legal existence. This can take the form of a Certificate of
Incorporation or if the company was incorporated more than a
year ago a Certificate of Good Standing. Make the effort to have
these documents either apostilled or legalised by consular
authentication, unless, of course, you are opening a bank
account in the same country where your offshore company is
registered.
Company Charter. Include a copy of your offshore company’s
Memorandum and Articles of Association, By-Laws or another form
of your company’s charter.
Directors’ Mandate. Include a resolution by the offshore
company’s board of directors to open the offshore bank account.
Some offshore banks provide their own resolutions for the
directors to sign.
Directors. Provide firm evidence of the current directorships.
Non-anonymous companies (those that place their directors on
public file) can provide an officially certified copy of the
relevant register for this purpose. Anonymous companies (those
that only maintain a private, internal register of directors)
must sometimes provide other evidence. If your offshore bank
does not accept the internal register alone, you can supply
incorporators’ resolution that originally appointed the first
director(s) of the company, if they are still acting. If
directors have changed since, be sure to also provide further
documents evidencing any changes (letters of resignation,
resolutions to appoint new directors, etc.)
Shareholders. Many banks require information about the
shareholders of any company seeking a banking relationship with
them. Most often, this can take the form of a copy of the
company’s register of shareholders. Some offshore banks provide
their own-format declaration regarding ownership; if they do,
you have to complete and sign that, too. In an increasing number
of jurisdictions, banks have legal responsibility to have this
information.
Confirmation of identity. Virtually all offshore banks want to
receive some form of evidence of the account signatories’
identity. This is can be a copy of a passport or a driving
license. Depending on the bank, photocopies might have to be
notarised. In addition, there are offshore banks that request
proofs of identity not only for the actual account signatories,
but for all directors and owners of the company as well (if
different). Bank references. Many offshore banks, but not all,
request that letters of reference from another bank is provided
by account signatories. Some offshore banks go even further:
they demand that a bank reference each be given by all directors
and shareholders of the company. There even are a few that will
contact the issuing bank to verify references. References are
sometimes needed instead of, and sometimes in addition to, the
confirmation of identity. There are jurisdictions where banks
are under legal obligations to seek references, and there are
banks that request references despite any legal obligation to do
so. Sometimes an introduction by a party known to the offshore
bank (such as an existing customer) is accepted instead of a
reference. A fair number of offshore banks still happily open
company accounts without any references at all. Policies vary
greatly across offshore banks and jurisdictions, so make a
choice that is acceptable to you.

Over time, grease, water, heat, stains, and food residues leave indelible marks on your once beautiful kitchen cabinets. If you didn’t want to spend a large sum of money buying new cabinets, you should study your options carefully and you will find a way out. Instead of replacing the cabinets, you can think of giving them a face-lift by a repainting them. Do the job yourself, and you can cut down the costs further. Of course, there will be an added bonus of the creative satisfaction you’ll get on doing the work yourself.
If you decide to paint your kitchen cabinets, keep in mind that the work could well spread over a period of three days. This will mean three days of eating out, so plan the work when it is most convenient.
The first thing is to decide on the color. For this, consider factors such as the color of the kitchen walls as also that of the tiles. The size of your kitchen must also be considered. Also keep in mind that light colors give the impression of spaciousness.
Next, decide if you want to paint both inside and outside the cabinets. A paint job involves a minimum of three days, and if you decide to paint the insides as well, you’ll have the additional task of emptying out the drawers.
The first step in the paint job involves the cleaning process. That means you have to remove the dust and grease stains. Remember that cleaning for a do-it-yourself paint job is different from the usual hygienic cleaning pattern that you follow.
Cleaning ensures a uniform and even finish to the paintwork.
Examine the surface carefully for any cracks and damages because paint will not cover these blemishes. Use coarse sandpaper to clean the surfaces and file down the scratch marks and cavities with wood putty.
Once this is done, prune old enamel surfaces with a primer. You have the choice between oil-base primer and water-base primer. Choosing an oil-base primer is a better option because the paint readily sticks to it.
While painting the stiles, cover the counter top with a masking or a painter’s tape. Begin the paint job from the least accessible points and work outwards. Next, paint the inner surfaces first and then move to the outer ones.
You can also consider using spray paint to give your work an even and uniform look. When you are done, allow plenty of time for the drying up process and then reassemble the cabinet back to its original position. The new, fresh, clean, and aesthetic look will provide you with joy of a day’s work well done.

“You can’t get good Mexican food anywhere north of Texas.”
So averred my good buddy Tony when I suggested a Mexican meal on
his recent visit. Now, I’m a good deal north of Texas, being in
the Heart of Massachusetts, but that’s the kind of challenge
that I can’t pass up. Three hours later, he was rubbing his
stuffed belly as we left Tortilla Sam’s, voted Worchester’s Best
Mexican Restaurant for the third year in a row. Being voted Best
Mexican Restaurant in a little northeastern city may not seem
like much - till you stand in front of the window at Tortilla
Sam’s and watch the tortillas - freshly mixed and cut by hand -
roll through the steam press and catch a whiff of the mole. Then
you realize that this is real Mexican food. And if the Mexican
food in Worcester is good enough to impress
Texas-born-and-raised Tony, we’ve got to figure that there are
great Mexican restaurants in other unexpected places, right?
I went looking for the most out-of-the-way and unexpected places
to find good Mexican food. My criteria and method were simple -
and hardly foolproof. In order to make the list, the restaurant
must serve primarily Mexican food, and must have been voted a
Best Mexican Restaurant in a local newspaper poll. There must be
some mention in the review of authenticity. If there was a
comment from someone who really KNOWS Mexican food, that gets
bonus points. The list is a long way from exhaustive, but if
you’re looking for good Mexican food a long way from home, you
just might get your craving satisfied at one of these unlikely
places to find authentic Mexican food.
Charlotte, N.C.
Me, I’d go looking for a good mess of pinto beans and Southern
barbecue in beautiful Charlotte, but if I did have a craving for
Mexican food, I’d head on over to Taqueria Las Delicias. It only
took the #8 spot on AOL’s CityGuide City’s Best awards, but any
place that serves its tamales wrapped in corn husk AND offers
lesser known Mexican foods like pupusas and taquitos is going to
get a visit from me when I hit Charlotte.
Boston, MA
The home of baked beans and clam chowder (white, thank you very
much) is also the home to Andale!, a tiny restaurant that seats
8 at the counter. Forget the ground, slightly spiced meat mush
that passes for Mexican food in most of Massachusetts, and build
yourself a quesadilla from chunks of roast chicken and spiced
vegetables. It’s fast Mexican food at its best, even if it is in
Boston.
Philadelphia, PA
Next time I’m in Philly, I’m skipping the cheese steak and
heading out for Mexican food. Voted Best Mexican food in the
Philly area, Coyote Crossing in Conshohocken has all the
standard gringo-Mex foods on the menu, but it also has…
caramel crepes and homemade sangria.
Seattle, WA
Can I get a café latte to go with the chilies relleno? El Puerco
Lloron in Seattle has been serving up its handmade tortillas and
fresh salsa for over two decades and they’re still making the
Best Of lists. If there is real Mexican food in the gateway to
Alaska, chances are that you’ll find it here.
Baltimore, MD
The folks at the Baltimore Citypaper appreciate the irony of
naming a Best Mexican Restaurant in Baltimore. To paraphrase,
it’s like naming the best air conditioner salesman in
Antarctica. Still, they dub the Mexican food at Los Amigos
Mexican restaurant ‘good’ and the wait staff friendly. Not quite
a ringing endorsement, but if I get sick of crab cakes in
Baltimore, I know where I’ll go.

Once upon a time, in the good old days when I was a boy, you would head off to the cinema in the weekend with your siblings in tow, allowing your parents a few hours of relief from the highly stressful realities of parenting in the seventies. Or something like that. To be honest, I don’t think my parents knew how good they had it back then. We lived at the edge of the world, or as close as you can get to it before falling off the map–in the trouble-free little city of Auckland, New Zealand. Either way, off to the cinema we would go, every weekend. Like dutiful clockwork children of the corn fields, sunshine or rain, good movie or total stinker. Actually, it’s a wonder my force-feed diet of Tarzan, Clint Eastwood, and Bruce Lee did me no lasting harm. Somehow I survived to adulthood, retaining my childlike indulgence for suspended disbelief in a darkened viewing room, minus the mandatory box of chocolate-centered Jaffas, which I have neither seen nor tasted now for perhaps thirty years.
Now, there’s a reason people go to movie theaters, and it’s one that likely factors into why I remember that part of my childhood so well. Watching movies in a cinema is nothing like the experience at home. At least, it was not back then. The big screen was essential to “losing yourself” in the fabricated reality of a big studio production. But, contributing just as much to the success of this movie magic was the concept of surround sound–having the aural component of the experience assault you from multiple directions at once. If I was an engineer I’d probably tell you that, by combining the sound from a number of separated speakers in a coordinated way, it is possible to create a spatial imaging component to the movie-going experience that your television just cannot reproduce. In layman’s terms: surround sound just pulls you into the screen.
Today, wireless surround sound systems exist to do exactly this in your home theater, helping to reduce the difference between the movie house and “in house” movie viewing. More exciting, however, has been the recent development of an audio technology much simpler than any wireless surround sound system. I’m talking about tactile transducers, or Bass Shakers, as they are more commonly known. Instead of depending on a wireless surround sound system to deliver the sensation of “being there”, tactile transducers generate very low frequency vibrational energy that can literally be felt throughout your body. Bass shakers allow you to experience every thump, thrust and shaking motion that the characters in your movies are feeling. By attaching a transducer to a solid surface, like the hardwood backing of a home theater lounger, these vibrations pack an emotional wallop when the storyline action steps up.
When that *thing* jumps out of the closet on screen, you’ll be jumping out of your chair! When those naval guns start pounding in “Sink the Bismarck”, or that T-Rex bellows in “Jurassic Park”, you’ll feel it in your bones. Once you have experienced a Bass Shaker at play, that plain old home theater surround sound system simply will no longer be enough for you.
If you are really adventurous, handy with tools, and have lots of time on your hands, you can buy tactile transducers separately and install them any place where you might also hook up ordinary speakers, including inside your car, if you like. But for the rest of us there is an easier option. Wireless Bass Shakers are built into many models of home theater loungers, including the Metro, Garrick, Este, and Rodeo models found on HomeTheaterSeatingGuide.com. No wires, no installation, no fuss. In fact, there’s no need even to send your kids off to the movie theater by themselves anymore. Not when your family can share together all the thrills, and now spills, of modern day movie viewing in the comfort of your own home theater.
Stephen Carter runs Home Theater Seating Guide, where existing home theater owners can offer home theater seating reviews of loungers and movie seats for the benefit of others looking to furnish their new home theater. HomeTheaterSeatingGuide.com also offers webmasters money-making RSS feeds of its home theater seating reviews. This article may be reproduced elsewhere provided it remains unchanged and includes this attribution section.

Many new mother choose to rent breast pumps rather than buy them. Breast pumps can be rented at the hospital where the baby is born by the doctor’s prescription.
Hospital-grade breast pumps are made of a sturdy mechanical quality and are comparatively large and powerful. They provide enhanced suction and cycling for mothers and infants. The hospital-grade electric breast pump will be provided on rental basis only when direct nursing at the breast is not possible during the neonatal period. The concerned physician has to submit documentation for the same.
One of the reasons for renting the hospital grade electric pump is when the mother has been discharged from the hospital, but is still under treatment for postpartum complications which might preclude direct nursing at the breast.
Another reason is when the infant is still hospitalized even after the mother is discharged. Also, in the event that the infant has complications like a congenital neuromotor, oral dysfunction, or any other congenital or neonatal acquired condition then direct nursing at the breast might not be possible. In such circumstances the physician can provide the necessary documentation for the renting of the hospital-grade breast pump, provided an over-the-counter pump failed to meet the mother’s needs.
Sometimes, when the mother is receiving any therapy with pharmaceutical agents then that might render her breast milk unsuitable for infant feeding while in the therapy. Also, if the baby develops a medical condition or requires hospitalization, then nursing might not be allowed on a regular basis. These are a few situations where the mother need not buy a breast pump but rather rent it from the hospital. The physician then has to provide the requisite documentation along with the treatment authorization request. Detailed documentation of the medical condition as well as the diagnosis and prognosis has to be provided. The physician need to mention the expected length of time the pump might be needed.
Breast Pumps provides detailed information about breast pumps, breast pump reviews, and more. Breast Pumps is affiliated with Disposable Diapers.

Affiliate programs are a very easy and effective way to make money on the Internet right? so how do they work?
Essentially, affiliate programs are a way that you can promote other people’s products and get paid a commission for promoting them. You can get paid to promote almost any type of product and service on the web.
Most of the top companies on the web have Affiliate Programs. Dell computers, Amazon, Expedia, AT&T, Chase bank, Delta airlines and Walmart are just a few examples - did you know that you can be paid a commission to sell products online for any one of these companies?
The best thing about affiliate programs is that it is so easy to set up a relationship with any one of these companies. Normally in business you would have to spend weeks or months of meetings, proving that you are a worthwhile partner to be able to do business with these sorts of companies. However, an affiliate program allows you to get commissions straight away as a little guy, without all the hassle of meetings and forming that relationship.
There are thousands of affiliate programs that you can promote on the web. You have so many choices that you could pursue. The key factors for success with affiliate programs are the following:
Choosing the right affiliate programs. If you choose certain affiliate programs you will likely only be able to earn a small income because their payouts are small. Other affiliate programs have very large payouts and high earning per click (EPC). If you don’t know what earning per click (EPC) is, it is the average amount that affiliates earn from each click to the site that they are sending money to. Some networks express it in earnings per one hundred clicks.
For example you could say an EPC of $57. This means you make $57 on average for every 100 visitors that you send to a site or 57 cents for sending one visitor to the site. Generally I am looking for affiliate programs with an EPC of $20 or more, which means I am making 20 cents per visitor. Usually, I focus on programs that have an EPC of $100 or $1 per visitor. When you are earning $1 per visitor you have potential for a lot more profit.
The second critical factor is getting the traffic to the affiliate program. We are going to talk about this more in other issues of the Ecourse.
The third factor is being able to pre-sell to the visitors of your site. Let’s say that you have a website where you discuss different products and services, a comparison type of site. You can recommend the product that you think is most beneficial and then when people click through to the site after your recommendation, they are much more likely to buy.
How do you find good affiliate programs?
One easy way is to go to all of the affiliate networks and sign up for affiliate programs there. The major affiliate networks like Commission Junction have thousands of affiliate programs that you can join in all sorts of categories. You can find a listing of the different affiliate networks at: http://www.profitpuppy.com/affiliate-networks.htm
It also depends on what type of strategy you are pursuing with affiliate
programs. There are many different strategies and we can’t go into all of them now, we’ll talk about them in detail in some later issues of the ecourse. However here are a few strategies to get your brain ticking over with ideas:
You can promote affiliate programs directly using Google Adwords. You simply promote the program by creating your own ads. This is the quickest way to make money on the Internet as you can get started and in 1-2 hours have some ads up that are making you money. However, it is getting more and more difficult to make money with this strategy as there are too many people doing it. As with anything in life, if something is too easy to make money, everyone will start doing it and it then becomes more difficult because there is more competition.
One strategy is to focus on a particular niche area … let’s say you decide to do a site on car rentals. You could then join all the affiliate programs to do with car rentals. You can find many of them through the major networks, but you might also need to search on Google for something like - ‘car rental affiliate program’.
Another strategy is to build lots of little mini sites on the Internet focusing on different keyword phrases that people are searching for and get free search engine listings in Google and other search engines. This is a great strategy because the traffic that you get is free. This is general called Search Engine Optimization (SEO). SEO is great and can make you a lot of money but it is also very tricky. It is not easy to get to the top of the search engines. It requires a lot of knowledge, and quite a bit of effort. Don’t think that you can just read a book and do it … normally it is going to take months of dedication to get there.
That’s a few ideas, but whatever area you are involved in on the Internet you should definitely be promoting affiliate programs. Even if you sell your own product online you should still look into affiliate programs as a back end profit centre for your business.
Affiliate programs are one of the quickest ways to make money on the Internet. Over the next few issues of the Ecourse we are going to talk about other strategies of using affiliate programs.
If you want a free email course on affiliate programs you can send a blank email to: tamsaffiliatemarketing@sitesell.net This email course is written by Ken Evoy and it is this course that actually got me started in marketing on the Internet.

It was thirty minutes before the big game; St. James’ Boys
School and Holy Cross School were both in their locker rooms
waiting to come out for the shoot around warm up. Both coaches
assembled their teams and began to pray, “O Almighty God today
is the big game and we pray in your name to give our boys a win.”
Pretty comical when you really look at it, both coaches praying
to the same God for the same outcome but only one will get the
answer prayed for. When the game is over, is it the team’s skill
and player’s talent that will win the game or the prayer of the
most righteous coach that wins the game.
There are examples of athletes appealing to God in every sport.
When a player on a basketball team shoots up the ball at the
last second without even looking they say, “He threw up a
prayer”, and when a football quarterback throws the ball all the
way to the end zone at the end of a game hoping someone will
catch it they call it a “Hail Mary” pass.
So does God answer the prayers of one coach and his players over
another coach and his players who are in the same game? Of
course not!
Acts 10:33: Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast
well done that thou art come. Now therefore are we all here
present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee
of God. 34: Then Peter opened [his] mouth, and said, Of a truth
I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: 35: But in every
nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is
accepted with him. 36: The word which [God] sent unto the
children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord
of all:) 45: And they of the circumcision which believed were
astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the
Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
So was it the big game that Peter was declaring that the Holy
Ghost was interested in; or was it that the Gentiles also
received the gift? What about the when the Word declares, “Then
cast your cares upon Him because He Cares for you! No request to
small for He who sees the sparrow fall” is God not promising
that no matter what size or weight the issue is He will hear
your prayer? So we come to the conundrum, which coach will have
his prayers answered. The easy answer is whichever coach wins.
The right answer is that God respects no man over another and
that the team that wins wins because they are more equipped to
win. They are better prepared, better skilled; execute the game
plan better and many more factors. So as both coaches bow their
heads in prayer before the big game the players can be comforted
by the fact that pray is communication with the Heavenly Father
and that comfort may just be what they need to get their game in
gear and win.

Identity theft has been a hot topic in the news during the last few years. Just a month or so ago, forty million credit card numbers were compromised due to a computer attack on a credit card processor. Consumers are rightly concerned, as it can take years to unravel the problems created when someone’s identity is stolen. New legislation in Texas and California, also proposed elsewhere, is designed to protect consumers by letting them put a “freeze” on their credit reports. Those in the real estate industry are worried, however, that doing so may make it difficult for some people to buy homes.
The concept of freezing credit reports is a simple one. Every time someone applies for credit, the lender contacts on of the three main credit bureaus and requests a copy of his or her credit report, which contains the applicant’s FICO score. The score, a number ranging from 300 to 850, indicates how worthy the applicant is to qualify for the loan or credit. The new laws allow consumers to “freeze” their credit reports, effectively blocking any attempts by anyone to view his or her credit score. If the score can’t be viewed, then credit can’t be issued, thus protecting the consumer from fraudulent activity.
The process is a simple one, and can be initiated or canceled with a simple transaction on the Internet. The problem, according to those in the real estate industry, is that this simple security precaution may make it difficult for a consumer who has blocked their credit to buy a home. In many markets, homes put up for sale sell in a few hours or days, and the process of unfreezing a credit report can take longer than that. If a home seller or lender cannot assess a potential buyer’s credit rating, then the home sale may be lost to another buyer. True, it is a simple process to unfreeze a credit report, but some consumers may forget that they froze their reports in the first place, or they may forget or misplace their username or password for the Website that allows them to unfreeze their report.
On the surface, the new laws to protect consumers seem to be a good idea, and those in the real estate industry who are concerned may find that their worries are unjustified. This is a case where all parties would benefit from taking the time to see if the laws are effective, and whether or not they actually hurt the real estate industry.
